Goodrich castle was ooit een Normandisch kasteel nabij het dorp Herefordshire. Het controleerde de weg tussen Monmouth en Ross-on-Wye. Volgens historici is het een voorbeeld van middeleeuwse architectuur.

Goodrich castle was once a Norman castle near the village of Herefordshire. It controlled the road between Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye. According to historians, it is an example of medieval architecture.
The castle was probably built by Godric or Mapplestone after the Norman invasion as a wooden stronghold. The stone keep was built in the middle of the twelfth century and the castle was considerably expanded at the end of the 13th century. It came into the possession of the powerful Talbot family.
During the English civil war the castle was besieged by Colonel John Birchin. With the help of a large mortar, roaring meg, he finally succeeded in conquering the castle. The castle was then not rebuilt and is now in the possession of English Heritage.
