Symonds Yat is een klein dorp in de vallei van de rivier de Wye. Het is een populaire toeristische attractie, met name de prachtige rivier de Wye. Deze rivier vormt de natuurlijke grens tussen Engeland en Wales. De naam is volgens de overlevering te danken aan Robert Symonds, een sheriff uit de 17e eeuw in het graafschap Herefordshire. Yat is een oud woord voor poort of pas.
