Stourhead is een enorm landhuis dat is gefinancierd en gebouwd door een bankiersfamilie, de familie Hoare. De estate werd in 1717 door Henry Hoare gekocht en daarna verbouwd. Ondanks het zakelijke succes had de familie geen gelukkig leven. Twee echtegenots van Henry overlijden op jonge leeftijd en zijn enige zoon en erfgenaam overlijdt in 1752.
Het huis wordt daarna overgenomen door Richard Colt Hoare. Diens vrouw overlijdt tijdens de geboorte van hun enige kind. Het huis blijft in de familie en Harry Hoare is de enige erfgenaam. Helaas overlijdt hij in 1917 in Egypte aan de gevolgen van zijn verwondingen die hij heeft opgelopen in de Eerste Wereldoorlog.
Het landhuis ligt in een prachtig park, met in het midden een grote vijver. Langs de wandelroute staan tempels, een obelisk en bijzondere bouwwerken.

Stourhead is a huge country house that was funded and built by a banking family, the Hoare family. The estate was bought by Henry Hoare in 1717 and then rebuilt. Despite the business success, the family did not have a happy life. The two wifes of Henry die at a young age and his only son and heir died in 1752.
The house is then taken over by Richard Colt Hoare. His wife dies during the birth of their only child. The house remains in the family and Harry Hoare is the only heir. Unfortunately, he died in Egypt in 1917 as a result of his injuries sustained during the First World War.
The country house is in a beautiful park, with a large pond in the middle. Along the walking route are temples, an obelisk and special buildings.
